Dec 05,  · We have never been that positive ourselves about the audible effects of polarity reversal, but since then, in true pragmatic spirit, HFN/RR has been careful, whenever possible, to preserve absolute phase polarity in equipment reviews, apart from a lapse in November when we inadvertently carried out a listening test between the Quad

Sep 06,  · The importance of maintaining "absolute phase" aka "polarity" in a system is controversial. One reason for that is that many recordings have been engineered with a large multitude of microphones, and have been subjected to extensive electronic post-processing, the result being that different instruments and different vocalists may have different polarities on the same recording.

Mar 23,  · the Telarc Omnidisc test LP has an absolute phase test. It is a single tone that moves the speaker drivers outwards when the absolute phase is correct. But it really doesn't matter that mush .

Absolute phase, or more properly 'polarity', has long been a hot topic. The concept is simple. In a stereo system a positive going waveform should result in the speaker driver moving forward, pushing and compressing the air in the room, rather than pulling and decompressing it, on the leading edge of the instrument or vocal 'attack'. This is all good until the actual recording itself was made.

Nov 19,  · Many audiophiles who have taken the trouble to experiment with absolute phasing (by reversing the polarity of both pairs of speaker leads) have reported that there is indeed an audible difference, and that in many cases, one system polarity sounds "better" than the tikateshilfcorcockhathouposttagerri.coinfo conclusion, of course, has been that our ears do respond to polarity, ergo absolute phase is a significant audio .

Jan 02,  · I see no evidence in the description of that test LP to suggest that track 2 is checking absolute phase, and I see plenty of evidence to suggest it is checking relative phase. I am content with that. RE: Testing of Polarity, posted on February 7, at

Jul 03,  · Absolute Phase: A Prerequisite To Optimum Performance The phrase absolute phase, seems to be one that is widely misunderstood. The term phase is most often used to describe the orientation of the + and - terminals of the speaker and amplifier. This relationship is more accurately defined by the term polarity.

Purpose. Does absolute phase matter? (not to be confused with wiring speakers out of phase with each other - see our Stereo Polarity Check).. Absolute phase means the preservation of signal phase all the way from microphone to loudspeaker, so that an instrument that sends a wave of positive pressure towards the audience/microphone is reproduced as a similar "push" from the loudspeaker (and the.

But wait, that cartridge also requires a turntable in the $35, vicinity for best results. This is a joke right? Do I really need a $50, plus investment to enjoy an LP as I would a CD for about $49, less? For me, this is today's rub regarding vinyl. It's a bottomless money pit, especially for those compulsive, obsessive types.
